Box Hill

Climb in a sentence. Probably the best known climb in England, a constant 5% gradient over four billiard-table smooth switchbacks with a spectacular view at the top down over Surrey and beyond.

View rating. 9/10. From the top looking south towards the south coast at Brighton there are few better vistas in the area. The view from the long third switchback is also a good one, although does involve a dismount halfway up or down the climb to take it in properly.

Difficulty rating. 3/10

Coffee & Beer. The NT cafe at the top does massive slabs of pretty good cake and is always popular with cyclists. The Running Horses in Mickelham and the Stepping Stones in Westhumble work for a beer.
